6 Weeks..Those First Smiles

From birth Reuben has always been very chilled out and content, it also helps that he loves a sleep and long may that continue.

We managed to get out first proper smiles out of our gorgeous boy this past weekend and I don't believe all those windy smiles stories as he hadn't fed for a good 3 hours prior to this - I certainly can't remember ever smiling when I had wind ha!

Unfortunately we still have an unwell Reuben bear but with his 6 week check up on Friday maybe we can get some answers as it's rather frustrating when there really is nothing known you can do, we were informed that January babies are generally of that state and the weather doesn't really help as it's constantly wet and miserable.

Reuben is very active and constantly aware of his surroundings now which is good but I feel like I can't turn my back for more than 5 seconds :)

Bathtime

So it would appear Reuben LOVES bathtime - this make it SO much easier for getting him into a routine because we can just give him a bath then have a warm bottle ready for when we get him dried and changed.

He is so relaxed in the water and even likes it when he comes in with us, how does your little one react in the bath?

Any special secrets you wish to share with regards to your routines please do feel free :)

Milk, Sleep & Routines?!

I can't believe Reuben will be 6 weeks old this Sunday (23rd February) it's quite sad really because each day seems to roll into another and before I know it the week has gone by!

We still have a snuffly, mucusey and ill Reuben bear and as you can imagine it is very frustrating as he tends to wake himself up just after falling asleep because his nose seems blocked - we have no idea what he sounds like breathing normally as this has been ongoing since birth.

Reuben is now in his cot as he is so tall and skinny like his Daddy :) I think he prefers this because he can stretch those long legs out!

We have had so much going on recently, we had to try him on Aptimil Comfort Milk as he seemed so sicky (colic according to the HV albeit it not as much screaming) and he was a tad constipated so they gave him Laxative on top of the milk - bless him he was only weighed a few days ago and it now 9lb 9oz.

I have noticed he seems a lot more alert especially when feeding during the night which as you can imagine is great fun, Katherine and I make such a great team when it comes to feeding, clothing, bathing and seeing to anything Reuben or each other need and it makes it so much easier when you are a team and there for each other.

We have had out fair share of smiles recently which is so nice to see especially when you are part of their daily routine and they get used to your face.

I am personally biased towards my boy and think he is the most gorgeous little boy on the planet!

Recently me and Katherine went out for a meal for Valentine's day as Nanna volunteered to look after Reuben - it was lovely to spend some time together but was very strange not being around Reuben bear!

Will update as I can in the next couple of days.

Audiology

So we finally got seen at the Audiology department at Basingstoke hospital and Reuben began his hearing test - it was horrible seeing him with all these pads and labels on him!

Luckily for us his brain was responding and he was able to pass the test in 1:08 which was a relief to both me and Mummy who had been enduring some sleepless nights worrying about it.

I know nothing would have changed between us if our little man had hearing loss but as a parent you can't help but worry.

Family Life

I still can't believe Reuben is over 3 weeks old now - how time does certainly fly!

We are adjusting to having our own little family and we are loving EVERY minute of it, we still can't think of life without him here and it's quite weird to think that.

He is very relaxed and nothing really bothers him apart from being naked? He is currently still suffering with a virus which they believe he picked up at birth as he has been bringing up mucus for about 2 weeks now which isn't right and the GP then told us we were overreacting but I am fairly sure you can't overreact when it comes to children!

We are still trying to help our little Reuben bear shift his virus but it's not easy as it makes him bring his milk up (thinking his stomach is full) and he sometimes struggles to sleep at night through his nose as it is so blocked but he still remains content and carries on.

We have had 2 visits from the health visitor now and Reuben has to be referred to the hospital for his hearing as we couldn't get a response from either side so he will have to undergo a more 'intense' test checking his brain aswell as his cochlea.

He is putting on a healthy weight and is now 8lb 80z and counting...every day is a different adventure and WE LOVE IT!
